Parents’ Code of Conduct
At OKE BC, basketball helps children grow. As parents, we support their effort, enjoyment, teamwork and character—not judge their worth by the result of a game.
Support the child
- Encourage participation for the child’s own interest and enjoyment. Recognise effort and progress without comparing them with other children.
- Listen to the child and give them room to learn, try and make mistakes. Do not label or criticise them in front of others.
- Work with the Academy for the child’s overall development, not only their performance in games.
Respect everyone on the court
- Set a good example. Respect players, coaches, referees, opponents and other parents, regardless of the result.
- Do not tolerate verbal or physical violence, insults or humiliation. Help create a safe, positive environment for every child.
- Encourage positively during training and games. Do not coach from the stands or pressure the child over playing time or winning.
Communicate with trust
- For schedules and organisational matters, follow updates through the club’s official channels.
- If you wish to discuss a child’s progress or difficulty, arrange a separate time. Do not start technical or game-related discussions during training or immediately after a match.
- Speak respectfully and discreetly. Do not criticise a child or coach in front of other athletes and parents.
Communication between the Academy and family should help the child: what progress they have made, what they are focusing on now and how we can support them together. It is not based on grades, rankings or comparisons with other athletes.
